Classes & Workshops

The Center for Book Arts provides many courses related to traditional and contemporary bookmaking, including hand bookbinding, letterpress printing, and other associated arts. Also included are classes in papermaking and printing, at affiliated organizations and artists' studios. These courses are designed to offer the best book arts instruction by providing the following:
Studio rental is available to any person who is qualified to use the equipment., including a 36" guillotine peper cutter, a 3-ton Kensol hot stamping press, five Vandercook proof presses, a treadle platen press and several hand platen presses from 5" x 8" and up, including a newspaper size Washington Hand Press, many cases of hand type, and all the usual equipment you expect to find in a letterpress printshop and hand bindery. Rental fees are $20 per hour ($12 for members). Monthly rates available as we well. Bookbinding Tools
For the convenience of our students, the Center sells basic bookbinding tools. These tools include: a bone folder, bookbinders
awl, scalpel with 10 replacement blades, pin tool, microspatula, spring divider, and ¸", 1",
1¸" and 2" glue brushes. Tools may be bought
individually or as a complete kit for $58.50 including tax.
Cash, check, Visa, and Mastercard are accepted. Call the Center for more information.
Registration Procedures
Registration begins immediately and continues throughout the semester. You are encouraged to register early, as class sizes
are usually limited to 8 to 10 students and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. You may register through the mail, or
in person at the Center. You may also register by phone or fax with Visa or MC. Please note that we cannot reserve
your place in a class without having received full payment.

Cancellation / Refund Policy
The tuition balance excluding $50 will be credited or returned to you if you cancel at least
6 business days before the first class
meeting. If you cancel less than 6 business days prior to the first meeting, or if you drop out of a class in progress, you will lose
your full tuition. Membership dues are not refundable.
If a class must be cancelled by the Center due to under-enrollment, students will be notified and the full tuition will be
refunded, or the student may apply that tuition toward another course, workspace rental, products or memberships. If a class has
already filled when a student's payment is received, the full amount will be refunded or may be applied toward another course.
Please Be Advised
The experience of learning bookmaking is important to us at the Center for Book Arts. Classes tend to be comprehensive and a
lot of information is covered in each session, especially those sessions at the beginning of the course. For this reason,
participants who miss a session may not be allowed to rejoin the class if the instructor deems that catching up the student
would be detrimental to everyone else in the class. The Center will not be responsible for absent students who are not allowed
to rejoin a class and no refund or credit will be made for the remainder of the session.ALLERGY ALERT !
